Plus I guess you can say I haven't been working too much on my art. I have been busy with my family doing...family things. I did manage to get some things made...I was making things to do a show but decided I would wait to do shows when we move again....My hubby is graduating this May...so will be uprooting in hopes to settle for the remaining of our days. tee hee.....so I am going to put some things in my shop for now and work on things to sell in a show slowly over time. Can you believe it is Christmas again???? I can't...Seems like I just packed Christmas up...and had to get it out again. It's fun though...

Maybe I'll Finish Something...

I have been indecisive about finishing the bunny doll from my previous post...I am just unsure how I want her body and with what...so maybe I'll finish....Not in time for Easter, but heck...Who doesn't love a bunny anytime of the year right? So, I moved onto another doll head...This one is bigger...I know you can;t tell in the picture, but it is actually quite a bit larger than the bunny.

This gal has also been in my mind since I made her as a wooden dottie pog and sold her to Sandy from Sandy's Creations in Canada! This is the dolly version of Mushroom Keeper. I got her head finished, now will I finish the body? AKKK!

I hope by next week I will have the finished dollies ready to show you!

I've been a busy bunny...

There are bunnies multiplying on my work table!

This is the newest addition to the Dottie Pog collection.

After I did the Bunting Bunny Print...I dreamt of it in 3D.

So of course I had to turn it into a little wooden doll.

She turned out so cute!

She hopped over to my shop this afternoon!

I couldn't stop there! I was thinking BIGGER!!!

Now a WIP Bunting Bunny will be a stuffed doll too!

I couldn't resist painting these portraits of beloved Raggedy Ann, Raggedy Andy and of course a sweet Vintage sock monkey. I took photographs of these sweethearts, painted them then enhanced them digitally. They are timeless old friends from yesteryear and even today. I have added prints to my shop for all you Raggedy collectors or even you Sock Monkey lovers...Enjoy!!!

I have been busy at the breakfast table working on some collage pieces which were inspired by my Dottie Pog wooden dolls and next will become bigger versions of dolls. I love to bring drawings to a 3 dimensional piece.... For now, these prints are available in my Etsy Shop.... They were printed on high quality photo paper ready for framing! She Now Goes Where She Belongs...pay It Forward...

There was so much confusion that went on regarding the doll in my last post. It's like having a senior moment and I am not even 40 yet.... I thought the doll was ordered by an artist friend...which also wasn't the case. I searched past records and finally found the original lady who bought the doll. I got a hold of her and told her the story of the china doll and her adventures. She was so thrilled to hear such a story and remembered the china doll well. The wonderful news is...I offered to send her the china doll !!!

She wrote:

Oh my gosh, I have goosebumps. What a strangely bizarre and kind twist this beauty has taken! It gives me faith in human kind. I would cherish her so very much. I,too am shaking my head in wonderment! It was lovely of you to forgive the wayward girl and so sweet to offer to send her to me. I would LOVE to have her, I remember her well. It's sort of cool that she is a well traveled dolly too!

I read on a Facebook post that today is Pay It Forward Day and while I'm not sure that is correct. I am going to put myself in a position to pay something forward.
Thank you so much for remembering me and for this generous offer. I am tickled pink!!!

She's Home...

It was four years ago...FOUR since I sold this piece to a fellow Artist friend ( So I thought). After shipping her.She never made it to her destination. I never knew what happened from the Post Office on...I even had to give back the money. Time passed....

Years passed....Then I got this e-mail from a gal who wanted to let me know that four years ago... I had bought some things from her for doll making....That she had received a package later from me, which held a little china doll in it. She said possibly I got the address wrong, ( I did...that is what went wrong...the address!!! ackkk!) But she was compelled to go to the dark side and open the package which had my friends name on it and decided to keep the china doll herself. She had kept it in her china cupboard and even moved to a different state...and all the while she had guilt inside every time she looked at the china doll in her cupboard. She wanted me to know how sorry she was and wanted to make things right. I was in utter shock ?really. Why after all these years would you even come forward and tell me this?. You could have just thrown her away and never said anything. I think it is a BIG thing to do...Coming forward and telling the truth about something after soooo long. Though this had ruined my reputation and too much time has passed by for her to possibly even want her anymore. I accepted the apology of this lady and told her to just keep her. She wrote back wishing the china doll come home to me. I couldn't say anything. She sent her back with a couple other things in the box. I sit here now. Thinking. I must be in the twilight zone. I can't believe this doll was stolen and kept for so long and that she made her way back to me. I'm still in shock. I made it known to this lady...That I forgive her. I hope for her to let go of the guilt she has held all this time. What would you do?

I think I may have to call this doll Hope for Hitty.
I made this doll so long ago with the word HOPE on it. Maybe that is what choked this lady with guilt. Yet, there was still hope for her ....... forgiveness. Could you forgive someone who stole from you and sent it back years later?
So she is home. I don't even know what to do with her now.
Perhaps I will have a good laugh someday!

Garden Pendant & More ....

This is my newest pendant just put in
the shop!
It is a collage sandwiched between four panes of glass using papers and children's book paper and represents The Garden where God made The Garden and Breathed life into Adam.
The pendant is 1 1/2 X 1 1/2 and hangs from a white ribbon adorned with beads...

These sock monkey pendants were special orders by a customer who is giving them to her daughters for Valentines Day. I thought I would share how cute they turned out. I will be happy to do special orders on the sock monkey pendants to anyone who is interested. The monkey is a painting i did of a sock monkey I had made. The pendants cost $12.00 and includes shipping!

Little St. Lucia

With St. Lucia's Day fast approaching on December 13th. I decided to make a couple dollies to celebrate the festival of lights. As many know St. Lucia was an Italian Christian martyr, killed for her faith in 304 AD. Many Scandinavian Countries celebrate this festival also known to be Winter Solstice...The shortest day of Winter. She is known as Light, hence her name Lucia. I will share more about her on December 13th while my little Freckles will dress up as her on that day!

Each St. Lucia has been hand painted with love and each a bit different in character.
I will be selling two of these girlies since I had promised Freckles I would make her one too!

Did you miss me? I had a long Summer break with the family....
Now the kids are back to their studies and I am back
to work on dollies and doodles.

Hello dear readers...

It is hard to believe it has been almost a whole month since I have been here at this blog.

It surely has been a rough month. I haven't had the chance to work on anything.

With family things going on, emergency hospitalizations,

surgery,death,illness, weddings, graduations etc...

I have had to take a step back, take a deep breath and let it all unfold....

Finally I think...I hope...Things will be looking up...

I hope to get back to normal, start the creative flow again and, enjoy some living.

I was making these for The Speckled Hen Country Store in Snohomish Washington.

Time sure does fly by!!!

We went to see the new
Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland
film this weekend!!!
My daughter and I loved it!!
It was magical!
I just had to come home and make an Alice.

And, so I did!!!

Her sweet face has been completely
hand painted and stitched.

Her hair is curly wool.

I used vintage fabrics and buttons for her outfit.

My sweet Mr. Darling even got me

It's a very busy& colorful yet, fun mug indeed!

Perfect for my morning tea.

My little Freckles and I have also been
reading Alice In Wonderland together.

A Little Valentine Swap!

The Valentine swap my MIL had again this year was truly a delight to join in.
I was paired up with a lady in England.
And, you know me...I have a thing for China Dolls.

So, I made this Valentine....
A China Doll face printed on fabric,
sewn on with added bits and scraps full of love.
And...off to England it went!!!

In return my package came in the
post from my partner Sue Eyley.
She put together THREE sweet colorful
Victorian Valentine cards.

Another love I have is the Victorian era.
These cards will be cherished.

It was fun to do this swap two years in a row.
I will surely join in next year!!!

I used to love mine since it resembled a Monkey of sorts!
I just giggled when my kids and I were shopping ...
They brought back memories of the cartoons and playtime with them.

We had a lovely Christmas Eve day together....
just the four of us.
The kids opened their stockings when they woke up.
We enjoyed each others company immensely.
I also made a yummylicious candlelit Italian dinner
and cookies for dessert.

Miss Freckles and I baked a special Birthday Christmas cake for Jesus!
It is a Christmas tree!

The children are now snuggled in their beds with
sugarplums dancing in their heads anticipating Christmas morn.

something I have not done in quite a long while.
I decided to create a Christmas woodland
themed picture for Christmas cards.

This sweet picture took me several hours to finish.
It was so much fun to create.

I then finished the drawing/ painting off with a
blue background with Wintery snowflakes.

Private Class...

With the recent, tender loss of her Mama just less than
a month ago, my dear Sister in Law came for a much needed visit over the weekend.
This was to be a sort of retreat for her to come, fellowship,
rest and do something creative, with the hope she would alleviate some stress and hurt.
We had a wonderful time, talking, getting things off our chest, hugging one another,
cooking together, spending some time with the kids at the park and our in the car picnic,
( because it was way to hot to eat outside!)
We have surely made a short time into a wonderful memory.

I had planned to teach her some of my own techniques in doll making.

She has been a crafter / seamstress for all of her life.
These were the sort of things that she shared with her own Mama,
whom was a very talented lady!

Lori, did a wonderful job with her doll. I am so very proud of her.
She chose Autumn colors for her doll, since her
year round decor at home is in Autumn colors.
I think it will be sweet!

It was getting LATE!
So, we had to close up shop for the night.
The doll was pinned together so that she could finish her off at home!
She promised to finish her dolly and send a picture of it completed!

Lori and I have a lot of History together...
some were the best of times , some were distant...
too distant.
I am blessed to have spent this time with her. A time which was needed for so long. I hope to have been a comfort for her through this very hard time in her life.
I am just blessed to have seen her smile this weekend!

Playing with ideas

There are just those times when I play with things in my head...
I don't get much accomplished this way...that's for sure. I have been playing around with this idea for a while now. Poor thing doesn't know what to think of me.

I am pleased with the face thus far... I hand drew the face with pens.... Now only if I could just complete this doll... That will be an accomplishment beyond mention. I have about four or five WIP's right now...
And it's driving me nuts !!!

Computers Don't Go To Heaven....

Yep !!!
Our main computer decided to DIE about 2 weeks ago. That's why I haven't been around. For the time being everything is gone...all pictures etc..... Motherboard went overboard.

For now, I am spending less time on the computer, which is always a good thing....maybe I will get some work done. Ha Ha.

Hopefully we will be up and running again. Retrieving my pictures is my only concern at the moment. I am still here.... see ya soon !!!

My Roomie... ZNE ConvenZioNE Part 9

It was a pleasure and a blessing to be roomed up with
Brandie Butcher-Isley from
Little Pieces Of Art
during the 5 day stay in Pleasanton.
She was a very nice roomie too !!
She does the loveliest work using old photos of forgotten people & even uses her own family photos in many of her pieces, scraps of papers and paint. I wish we would of had more time so that I could have taken her class too !!!

I feel so fuzzy inside when I see her work. Makes me smile !!!
I may just have to try my hand with an inspired piece myself. It was truly a relaxing time with her which I will always remember our evening coffee with a couple of the other gals downstairs in the Hotel . I hope to meet her again. She is such a delightful person.

Ann Denise Anderson is one of the sweetest peeps I have met... they all are truly sweet.
But, Ann Denise took it so well when Lisa & I played a couple lighthearted jokes on her.
Yes, we did !!

She was sleeping one night so sound. We were going to decorate her with her crepe papers...instead we placed a crepe paper crown on her head and took a picture. Out of kindness we will not post that picture.

Then during one of our dinner outings we told the waiter it was her birthday.....they came out with a huge sombrero, ice cream and sang to her. She was so embarrassed. It was a good laugh though. I just love her for that. She had no problem with enjoying her birthday ice cream all to herself either. And, her birthday isn't till August or something. LOL...

Lastly here's me, Lisa and Shari.
You gals are such Sweet hearts !!!

We had a great time just hanging out together...many friendships were made at this event.

She is so down to earth and may I add very talented with original jewelery making and creating beautiful pieces from different fabrics & textures.

Ruth and I had a great time while taking Gina's class at Tangerine.
Oh, good times !!!

I couldn't leave the Art, Paperie & Pleasantries Show without collecting a few pieces from a few of my friends.
Here is a piece of Ruth's heart.
I loved it so much I made it into a brooch.

She has been featured in magazines and has two books.
Her pieces are amazing in my eyes. The textures and feel is earthy, yet lovely and quite feminine.

ZNE ConveZioNE Class At Tangerine Part 4

The day was so fun...we worked on our dolls despite the urging feeling of wanting to look and shop. Gina was a great teacher. We all headed out to a Chinese lunch that afternoon, then finished the music boxes for the dollies to stand on.

I made mine, especially for my little girl.
I made it look like her, down to the freckles on her face.
The pieces turned out gorgeous !!!
Everyone did such wonderful work. I am just so tickled to have spent
such an awesome day with such an awesome group of talent.

ZNE Tangerine Style...Part 3

Friday morning all the girls moved on to their next class, some went off to teach as others went to take classes. I signed up for Gina Gabriell's "Turn, Turn, Turn" class. Which was held at her delightful store front
Tangerine
located in Dublin, CA.

How in the world are we supposed to WORK in this cute shop. I and others were all ready to shop !! The shop was so bright and cheery, filled with eye candy & fun, it was hard to concentrate.

Every little nook and cranny was filled with joy & muse.
The colors were vibrant and happy, you could almost eat everything.

There were fun dollies and crafty goodness, supplies, paper, glitter...you name it,
it was there...even the bathroom sink,
I am not kidding you.

Not only was the shop adorable but Gina was great. What a strong lady she is. With the recent loss of her beloved "Bella" Stevie, who passed on from cancer in 2007, Gina wrote and illustrated a wonderful book about a little girl & her battle with cancer. The story is so touching...I cried my eyes out. I read it to my daughter when I got home from the trip, we balled. If you know someone or you have a child who is battling cancer, this book my friend is for you.

Everyone is born and everyone dies.

It is a great Mystery and a promise.

It is a story that is hard to remember

and a story that has no endings,

only beginnings."

Let The Class Begin !!! Part 2 ZNE ConveZioNE

Welcome !!
I set the table with cupcake plates and party napkins as each student received their own Eat Cake kit in red gift bags. They also had their choice of papers, trims and embellishments. We set to work making the dolly first since we had to use paper clay & needed time enough to dry.

As the lil girls dried outside basking in the sun. We got started on the cake boxes. Lots of decisions were being made as to color choice and trims. The gals were having a good time talking and creating the cakes.

After 3 hours of hard work. We broke for lunch , which was catered in by Innovations. Yum !!! We got our fill, then proceeded on the rest of the project.

They painted their
( Now dry)
dolly's,
added all the trims to their frocks, finished them off with a party hat.

In return there were happy women, smiling from ear to ear at how their sweet cake & dolly candy containers turned out. They were all sooo awesome.
It just made me so proud of them !

Two delightful sisters, Diane & Kathleen from
Papertons
joined us and made the sweetest cakes in similar colors,
yet they were specially different !

Shari from
Staffordshire Garden Designs
made her darling cake for her daughter.
Oh so sweet,
you could almost eat it !

Lana
( Jeff ,from The Wiggles cousin)
joined in the fun making her cake & dolly quit different from the rest.
She was sporting a brilliant purple in Paris feel.

We all stood back, gave pats on the back for a job more than well done. 6 hours had passed,
the " Eat Cake"
dolly's were finished and it was time for us to part our ways until
The Papier & Pleasentries Show
held May 2-3.

Oh ladies , you did awesome work.
I hope you will always treasure the piece you made !!

Arriving At ZNE ConveZioNE....Part 1

The day finally came to fly out to Pleasanton CA. For the ZNE ConvenZioNE. I had to take two flights from San Diego into Phoenix,from Phoenix to Oakland. Crazy day that was. I was in awe of the patchwork quilt below and how crazy high up I was . I am actually scared of heights and flying. So, I white knuckled the flight the whole way in. Once I landed in Oakland, I was instructed to meet my fellow friends, Julie Bergman, Ruth Rae and Ann Denise Anderson, from there we were picked up by a Town car. With four women and ummmmmm, like 10 bags ( big bags) he packed the trunk , which had tires in there too ! I was hoping the suitcases wouldn't fly out of there.

We were then dropped off at The Marriott Hotel, checked in and there met up with Lisa Kettell, her Mama Joan Kettell and my roomie Brandie Butcher-Isley.

We buncked up in a really sweet room with feathered beds. It was quite comfy for not being in your own bed. I usually never sleep well in a strange bed.

We settled in, shortly there after we took a shuttle to downtown Pleasanton where we met up with the other instructors and ConveZioNE attendees.

The opening reception was held at Studio 7 Art Gallery. We were delighted by the fascinating art work around the gallery as well as all our arty friends whom attended.

Traveling troubadour John Troast
played his Folksy tunes as we ate delicious truffle chocolates that were absolutely humongous.

After the reception we went out on the town and shopped around the quaint little town. First stop, American Harvest.

Alter Me.....

For many years now I have dabbled in altered art. Taking something old, broken and forgotten items and giving them new purpose. I have been preparing for the ZNE Art ConveZioNE to teach and sell my goods in just 8 more days.

I have re -purposed & altered some antique and vintage items into cheery bling. As well as my favorite broken and forgotten china doll heads... fresh, fun pieces have been created !

I can't wait to spend 5 days spreading

the joy of Art to others!

I have re- purposed/altered this old brown suitcase, adding a brilliant red color, vintage luggage labels and red polka dot ribbon.

To make your own... check Flea Markets, Thrift Shoppes and Garage/Estate sales for an old /vintage suitcase. I found mine for $5.00. Buy your favorite color spray paint ( Krylon ) . Spray the case all over in well ventilated area, let dry completely. You can buy many fun vintage style sticker luggage labels online or search the Internet. Here are a few I used. Just color copy from your computer on regular paper, cut out and mod podge back of paper. Place labels wherever you desire. Add ribbon to each side of case for a whimsical feel.

I am spending a quiet afternoon at home after a long Easter weekend of gatherings. It was a great time spent with our Church family /friends. I hope you all had a nice Resurrection Sunday too !!

Spring Cleaning and then some.....

March bustles in on windy feet

And sweeps my doorstep and my street.

She washes and cleans with pounding rains,

Scrubbing the earth of winter stains.

She shakes the grime from carpet green

Till naught but fresh new blades are seen.

Then, house in order, all neat as a pin,

She ushers gentle springtime in.

Ahhhh, a mothers work is never done. Cook, clean, teach, make sure laundry is done, care for the kiddo's and the hubby, leaving some time for myself of course!

Our boxes that didn't make the move finally got shipped last week !!! EEEK !!! It was like Christmas going through all of the things that we missed. I have been going through it all, sorting, purging, putting away. Whew !! On top of it all there is house work and I have been hit with the worst Hay Fever that Spring can offer. I am not complaining... Just been busy trying to keep up with the dust.

I have also been busy sewing away in my little corner studio while the children work on their lessons. I have three Doll House Doll's coming up as well as some soldered pendants!!!!

The theme has been houses lately... Hmmmmm....
